Well, what a year 2017 was! Without a doubt, our most transformative year to date since Akkroo was launched in 2013. We grew the team from 11 to 24, took on our first overseas teammates, powered our way through a key revenue milestone, moved into bigger, better offices and after many months of hard work, are on the cusp of releasing our most impressive range of product updates to kick off 2018 in style.
Here’s a run down of the year that was, and a preview of what to look forward to in 2018…
Starting off in 2017 we launched a brand new website! Not content with this alone, behind the scenes we also started to implement our first “grown-up” CRM and Marketing automation tools. The team grew too, and we had to knock down walls in the office to continue to accommodate us. We also managed to fit in some downtime as well, with a well-deserved trip out bowling.
The month kicked off with co-founders Andy and Chris, with advisor-investor Gareth, heading over to San Francisco for the SaaStr Annual conference. A packed few days listening to and learning from a wide range experts in the world of SaaS.
Another busy month with our first and second trade show of the year. We were featured in The Times newspaper too. We headed over to see Akkroo in action at an event in Switzerland and back at HQ, we established our first leadership team to foster growth within the business.
We headed out of the office and got the entire team together for an away day, at a rooftop apartment in Fitzrovia. The away day was also when we introduced our values awards for teammates. The team grew by one again, bringing onboard our first DevOps engineer.
Back in the air again; some of our team headed to Austria to meet with customers. We also smashed through a key revenue target for the business, securing £1m in annual contracts. The team grows again, adding another person to the marketing team.
Our COO heads to Lisbon and the Landing Careers Festival on the waterfront, to talk about applying techniques used at remote companies to improve team culture. We also had a visit from our US-based investor, Joel from Buffer.
We attended the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed as guests of Aston Martin, where they were using Akkroo. July also marked our first customer advisory board, allowing us to bring together our thoughts on Event Lead Capture and future ideas for our product. Some of the team also started getting creative with photoshop (on Fridays).
With a growing worldwide customer base, we expanded our support team, adding coverage for the east and west coast of America. We also headed to Milton Keynes for another away day, to make plans for the next quarters. We managed to fit in some go-karting too.
A fully stocked month for events, with teammates visiting SaaStock in Dublin. Akkroo was the event lead capture sponsor for the event, with 29 SaaS companies using our software solution. We fitted in some more events too, exhibiting at Event Tech Live and Technology for Marketing in London. We also separated out our Product and Engineering team as part of our continued growth. In amongst all of that, we got a survey out to our customers to gain vital feedback as well.
With all these new teammates and accelerated growth, it was time to find a new home! The Akkroo founders announce our new HQ, in Brixton, London. October also saw us help our customers collect over one million leads. During the month we clarified our company vision and defined our mission. Team Akkroo found time to triumph in the Bake Off against our sister company RMP Enterprise as well.
We kick off the month with the release of our brand new Success Hub, designed to help our customers get the most out of Akkroo. Our CEO, Chris Wickson, heads to Swiftscale to give a talk on Akkroo and our Event Lead Capture solution. SaaS heavyweight Jason Lemkin also took the time to mention us in a tweet!
November also saw us release our “What is Akkroo video”…
Most companies wind down towards the end of the year but we were the opposite, moving into our new home, Piano House! To keep up with all our hiring requirements and look after our team, we made our first dedicated People Operations hire.
As we embark on the beginning of 2018, we welcome four new teammates across People Operations, Engineering and Sales. We’re also about to release our biggest range of product updates to date (more on that here) and are truly excited to see the impact this will have on both existing and new customers.
Chris, Andy, Dan and Ben will also shortly be heading over to the US for a couple of weeks to visit a range of customers and take in the 2018 SaaStr Annual event, and hiring is underway for a range of new roles as we continue to invest in the team.
Our mission is to bring Event Lead Capture into the modern era, and to enable events, sales and marketing to be truly connected. Like 2017, this year will see us take even bigger strides in achieving this for businesses all over the world – bring it on!
