The Akkroo team have just returned from our most recent offsite excursion – our Summer Away Day in Milton Keynes, home of the roundabout (or traffic island for our international friends)! It began with a bleary-eyed early start at London’s Euston station, followed by a short train journey north to Milton Keynes which would be our basecamp for the next two days.
CEO Chris kicked off the day with a business round up — it’s always incredible to see how far the team has come in such a short space of time. We’ve more than doubled in size in more ways than one in the last 12 months; for example, at the 2016 Away Day we were just 14 people, however fast forward 11 months, there are 29 of us (including all 14 from the 2016 event) and yet to include some team-mates who will be joining us very soon!
Also, in the last 12 months we’ve hit a series of key milestones in our journey. Chris reflected on our progress and we revisited our vision of fixing and transforming the perennial challenge of effective lead capture at events all over the world.
It’s another reminder of the exciting times ahead as the hard work continues!
Chris then handed over to our COO, Andy, who looks after product design & development at Akkroo. He began by going over our hiring plan, introduced our first Product Manager (who will be starting soon) and stepped though the detail of some new operational roles. He then ran us through our product roadmap and gave up some juicy details of the biggest product updates in the months ahead.
After the run down, we spent time on an activity designed to help us all get to know our customers better; a really beneficial use of time which created a stack of useful actions and ideas for engaging with our key customer stakeholders in Sales, Marketing and CRM teams.
And then… the main reason for visiting Milton Keynes…! We’d been booked into the “UK’s ultimate outdoor go-karting experience”, Daytona racetrack. Not quite the US Daytona, but still a huge go-kart circuit. 29 drivers, 1.4km of high-speed straights and corners and a lot of fun had by all. Congratulations to our very own Lewis Hamilton, Dan Currin, for taking first place on the podium! A notable mention to Asya Barker who gave it “maximum attack” throughout the 40min race, keeping the race marshals animated and warning flags well ventilated.
We rounded off the evening with dinner and drinks, and for a small, brave group of Akkroo-mates, apparently a late night trip to Milton Keynes’ finest casino (a few people even came back up on their night out)!
We took day two a little easier starting with a full English breakfast, and after coffee, the various customer persona teams presented back their findings to the rest of us, concluding the Customer Persona activity we’d started the day before. We then headed back into London mid-afternoon to neatly ease into the weekend.
All in all, our Away Days were once again a really enjoyable and productive couple of days where new Akkroo-mates could get to know their team a little better and we all could spend some time celebrating the successes of the last few months. It’s great to take some time out and reflect on our growth as a group, and enjoy our time together working in a more informal setting.
Looking forward to the 2018 one already!
